Our Story

Chef Marcus Vidal and West Liberty Street

Marcus Vidal grew up in Beaufort and cooked his way through kitchens in Charleston and New Orleans before landing in Savannah in 2015. He opened Little Oak on West Liberty Street in 2018 — a few blocks from Forsyth Park, under the oldest live oak on the block.

The kitchen is small and the menu is short by design. Marcus changes half the menu every four to six weeks, depending on what’s at the Forsyth Park farmers market on Saturday. He still does the shopping himself most mornings.

“The shrimp and grits at Little Oak is the reason we booked a second night in Savannah. Marcus came out to say hello and explained where everything on the plate was from. That’s the whole experience.”

“We walked over from Forsyth Park on a Sunday and the brunch was packed by 10:15. The Lowcountry hash with jalapeño hollandaise — I still think about it. Get there early.”

“Best deviled crab cake I’ve had in the Historic District, and I’ve lived here six years. The she-crab soup was poured tableside. Small menu, serious cooking.”
